As of 13 August 2026, AI can write a complaint to your energy supplier.
Most people should do this themselves; the prompt is on this page.

What the alternative costsThe available tool data does not give a price for a human complaint-writing alternative.
If this goes wrong: the complaint contains a wrong date, amount or demand, and you have to correct it with the supplier before the case is resolved.

The route this page recommends
A chat interface, chat-fluent skill, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.
How to actually do it
- Open your latest bills, payment records, meter readings and messages with the supplier, and make a dated list of what happened.
- Copy the supplier name, account reference, disputed amounts, relevant meter readings, contact dates and previous responses into a separate note.
- Remove unnecessary personal information from the note, such as full bank details, passwords and unrelated account information.
- Paste the prompt and your factual note into a chatbot, then ask it to produce the missing-facts list and complaint draft.
- Compare every date, amount, reading, quotation and claim in the draft with the original bills and messages, deleting anything you cannot support.
- Add the correct contact route from your supplier's current website and send the checked complaint with the relevant evidence attached.
Prompt
Write a clear, firm complaint email to my UK energy supplier using only the facts I provide. Do not invent dates, amounts, meter readings, tariff terms, legal rights or previous contact. Do not make legal claims unless I provide the exact source and wording. First list any missing facts that could affect the complaint, then draft the email in plain British English. Include a concise subject line, my account reference if supplied, a chronological summary of the problem, the evidence I have, the action I want the supplier to take, and a reasonable request for a written response. Keep the tone factual rather than threatening. Do not include information that I have not supplied. My details and evidence are below: Supplier: [supplier name] Account reference: [account reference or leave blank] Problem: [what happened] Relevant dates: [dates] Amounts or readings: [amounts and meter readings] Previous contact with the supplier: [dates, channels and responses] Evidence available: [bills, screenshots, emails or other records] Outcome I want: [specific resolution] Name: [name]

What it gets wrong
- AI cannot know which parts of your account history are missing unless you provide the bills, messages and payment records.
- It cannot decide what remedy the supplier should accept when the facts support several possible outcomes.
- It cannot confirm that the supplier's current complaint process or contact details have not changed.
- It can turn an uncertain recollection into a definite-sounding statement, so every date and amount still needs checking against your records.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: context depth, judgement under ambiguity and stakes of error.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.

|---|---|
| Output | 2 |
| Inputs | 2 |

FAQ
- Can AI write a complaint to my energy supplier?
- Yes. It can organise your timeline and evidence into a clear complaint email, but you must check every date, amount, meter reading and requested remedy before sending it.
- What information should I give AI for an energy complaint?
- Give it the supplier name, account reference, relevant bills, dates, meter readings, payments, previous contact and the outcome you want. Remove passwords, full bank details and any information that is not needed for the complaint.
- Can AI get my energy supplier to refund me?
- No tool can guarantee a refund. AI can explain the problem clearly and state the remedy you are requesting, but the supplier decides how to handle the complaint.
- Is it safe to paste my energy bill into AI?
- Check the chatbot's privacy terms first and redact unnecessary personal and payment information. You can usually give the figures, dates and account details needed for the draft without sharing the whole bill.
