YES

As of 13 August 2026, AI can prepare for a UK job interview.

Most people should hand this to a purpose-built tool.

What the alternative costsA purpose-built alternative is Final Round AI, an AI tool for mock interviews and live interview preparation.

If this goes wrong: you rehearse generic or invented answers and perform poorly when the panel asks for specific evidence.

What to actually do

  1. Use a tool built for this

    The route this page recommends

  2. Do it yourself

    Second choice

A chat interface, chat-fluent skill, and roughly 30 minutes until you can act on the result.

    How to actually do it

    1. Open the job advert and copy the full job description, person specification and any stated interview format into a document.
    2. Open your current CV and gather three to five truthful examples from work, study, volunteering or other experience that show relevant actions and results.
    3. Paste the advert, your CV, your examples and the interview format into the prompt, replacing every bracketed slot and removing anything you do not know.
    4. Ask the chatbot to produce the preparation pack, then compare every proposed fact about your experience with your CV and examples and delete anything unsupported.
    5. Open the employer's official website and check any company-specific facts suggested by the chatbot, replacing generic motivation wording with one fact you have verified.
    6. Start the mock interview and answer each question aloud without reading a script, then rewrite only the weak sections using your own words and practise them again.

    Prompt

Help me prepare for a UK job interview using the material below.

    Job title: [JOB TITLE]
    Employer: [EMPLOYER]
    Job description and person specification:
    [PASTE THE FULL JOB ADVERT]

    My CV or work history:
[PASTE YOUR CV OR A FACTUAL SUMMARY]

    My genuine achievements and examples:
    [LIST EXAMPLES YOU COULD DISCUSS]

    Interview format, if known:
[FOR EXAMPLE: VIDEO, PANEL, COMPETENCY-BASED, PRESENTATION]

Create a practical preparation pack with these sections:
    1. The six most likely interview questions, based only on the job advert and the information I supplied.
    2. For each question, give a concise answer plan using my real experience. Use STAR where it fits, and mark any missing evidence instead of inventing it.
    3. Five sensible follow-up questions the panel might ask.
    4. A strong answer to "Why do you want this role?" using only facts I supplied. If employer research is needed, tell me exactly what I must check on the employer's official website.
    5. A short answer to "Tell me about yourself" that takes no more than two minutes when spoken.
    6. Five questions I could ask the interviewer that are relevant to this role.
    7. A mock interview in which you ask one question at a time, wait for my answer, then give feedback on relevance, evidence, structure, clarity and concision before asking the next question.

Rules: invent nothing about me, the employer or the role. Do not claim I have skills, results or qualifications that are not in my material. Use British English. Keep the wording natural and speakable rather than polished or corporate. Separate factual claims from suggestions. Point out where I need to add a real example or verify a current employer detail.

Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.

  3. Hand it to a person

    The distant third

A person who owns the outcome does this end to end, worth it when the failure is dear.

What it gets wrong

  • AI cannot know the interview panel's unstated priorities, personalities or scoring decisions.
  • It turns thin experience into generic competency answers unless you supply specific events, actions and results.
  • It cannot judge whether your delivery, pace, eye contact or nerves will feel credible in the room.
  • It cannot verify private employer information or predict questions that depend on an internal hiring decision.
  • It does not carry the consequence if an answer is inaccurate, exaggerated or poorly suited to the role.

Even on a YES, the friction has a name: judgement under ambiguity, context depth and stakes of error.

How we scored this

Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.

FAQ

Can AI help me practise for a job interview?
Yes. It can generate role-specific questions, turn your real experience into answer plans and run a mock interview. You still need to answer aloud and check that every example is true.
Can ChatGPT give me answers to interview questions?
It can give you structures and draft wording based on the job advert and your experience. Do not memorise invented or overly polished answers, because you remain responsible for what you claim and the panel may ask for detail.
Can AI predict the questions I will be asked in an interview?
It can make reasonable practice questions from the job description and stated interview format. It cannot know the panel's private question set or guarantee what will be asked.
Is it okay to use AI to prepare for a UK job interview?
Yes, using it for research structure, practice and feedback is reasonable. Use your own truthful examples, check employer facts yourself and do not use AI during the interview unless the employer explicitly allows it.
