As of 13 August 2026, AI can turn your revision notes into a mind map.
Most people should do this themselves; the prompt is on this page.

What the alternative costsNo comparable human-service price is provided in the supplied tool data.
If this goes wrong: the map leaves out a detail or puts a concept in the wrong branch, which you can find by comparing it with your notes and correct before revising.

The route this page recommends
A chat interface, no skill needed, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.
How to actually do it
- Open your notes for one topic, remove unrelated material, and copy the complete text into one document.
- Open ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and paste the prompt above, replacing the bracketed subject, exam level and notes slots.
- Copy the returned indented map into your notes and paste the Mermaid code into a Mermaid-compatible editor if you want a rendered diagram.
- Compare each branch with the original notes, checking that definitions, examples, dates and formulas have not been omitted or changed.
- Ask the chatbot to move, shorten or split any branch that is hard to scan, while keeping the instruction to use only your notes.
- Add the map to your revision system and use the [CHECK] list to resolve unclear points from your textbook, class materials or teacher.
Prompt
Turn the revision notes below into a clear mind map for [subject and exam level]. Use only information contained in my notes and do not add facts from memory. Put the main topic in the centre, then group related ideas into logical branches and sub-branches. Keep each node short enough to scan during revision. Include important definitions, examples, dates, formulas and links between ideas when they appear in the notes. Mark any unclear, duplicated or apparently missing point as [CHECK] rather than guessing. Give me both an indented text version and Mermaid mindmap code that I can paste into a Mermaid-compatible editor. After the map, list the points from my notes that were difficult to place or that need checking. Revision notes: [PASTE YOUR NOTES HERE]
Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.

What it gets wrong
- It cannot know which ideas your teacher will prioritise unless that emphasis is present in the notes or you provide the specification.
- It can create a tidy hierarchy that looks convincing while placing a concept under the wrong branch.
- It cannot choose the visual layout that works best for your memory without your feedback.
- It does not replace checking the map against the original notes and your current course materials.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: context depth and taste.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.
| Axis | Score (0–2) |
|---|---|
| Output | 2 |
| Inputs | 2 |
| Verification | 2 |
| Liability | 2 |
| Effort delta | 2 |
| Total | 10 / 10 |
The methodology and its thresholds are published in full.
FAQ
- Can ChatGPT make a mind map from my notes?
- Yes. Paste in your notes and ask for a hierarchical map, such as an indented outline or Mermaid diagram. Compare the result with your original notes because a neat map can still omit or misplace a point.
- Can AI make a visual mind map for revision?
- Yes, if you ask for diagram-ready output such as Mermaid code, or use a study tool that presents course material visually. The visual arrangement still needs your judgement because the model does not know which layout helps you remember best.
- Is it safe to use AI to make revision notes?
- It is reasonable for organising notes you already have, provided you check the result against the originals. Tell it not to add information from memory, and verify important facts against your textbook, specification or teacher's materials.
- What is the best AI tool for making a mind map from notes?
- StudyFetch is a purpose-built study tool that turns course materials into study resources and offers an AI tutor. A general chatbot is also enough for a simple text or Mermaid mind map when you supply the notes yourself.
