As of 13 August 2026, AI can write a follow-up after a prospect does not reply.
Most people should do this themselves; the prompt is on this page.

What the alternative costsLavender is an AI email coach that scores and improves sales emails as you write.
If this goes wrong: the message sounds generic, misses the prospect's concern or arrives at the wrong moment, and you can amend it before sending or recover in the next conversation.

Do it yourself
The route this page recommends
A chat interface, chat-fluent skill, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.
How to actually do it
- Open the email thread and copy the relevant messages, including the date of your last contact and any reply or next step the prospect mentioned.
- Gather the current product facts, approved wording, relevant pricing or availability details, and the exact action you want the prospect to take.
- Paste the prompt into a chatbot and replace each bracketed slot with the thread, context and approved facts, removing anything you do not know.
- Ask the chatbot to produce the subject line and email, then compare every factual statement against the original thread and your current sales materials.
- Edit the draft so the call to action matches your actual availability and the tone fits your relationship with the prospect.
- Paste the final message into your email or CRM, check the recipient and thread, and send it yourself.
Prompt
Write a follow-up email to a prospect who has not replied. Use only the facts in the information below and invent nothing. Keep it concise, plain and professional in UK English. Do not guilt-trip the prospect, imply urgency unless it is stated, or claim that I know why they have not replied. Refer naturally to the previous conversation and make one clear, low-pressure call to action. If the context does not support a specific next step, write a neutral option that lets the prospect decline or suggest another time. Give me one subject line and one email, with no commentary. Prospect name: [name] Company and role: [company and role] Previous email or conversation summary: [paste the relevant thread or summary] Agreed next step, if any: [next step] Relevant product or commercial facts: [facts that may be mentioned] Desired call to action: [what you want the prospect to do] Preferred tone: [tone]
Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.

What it gets wrong
- AI cannot know whether the silence means lack of interest, internal delay, a changed priority or a missed message.
- AI cannot judge the commercial value of waiting, calling, changing the offer or closing the opportunity without your pipeline context.
- AI cannot confirm that product claims, pricing, availability or promised next steps are still current.
- AI cannot guarantee that a polished follow-up will earn a reply or preserve the relationship.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: context depth, judgement under ambiguity and taste.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.

FAQ
- Can ChatGPT write a follow-up email if a prospect does not reply?
- Yes. Give it the relevant email thread, the agreed next step and approved product facts, then check the draft before sending.
- What should I say in a follow-up email after no response?
- Briefly reconnect the message to the previous conversation and make one clear, low-pressure request. Do not pretend to know why the prospect is silent or create urgency that does not exist.
- How many follow-up emails should I send after a prospect goes quiet?
- AI can help draft a sequence, but it cannot decide the right persistence for your relationship, deal value or buying process. Set the stopping point yourself and use the prospect's previous signals rather than sending an endless template.
- Can AI automatically send follow-up emails to prospects?
- Some sales tools can help automate outreach, but automatic sending is a separate task from drafting and needs controls for timing, consent, personalisation and stopping rules. For this task, keep a person responsible for checking and sending the message.
