YES

As of 13 August 2026, AI can write a cold pitch to potential freelance clients.

Most people should do this themselves; the prompt is on this page.

Can you do it?

5 minutesto a draft.

15 minutesto something you’d act on.

Who has to check ityou

What the alternative costsNo pound price for a human cold-pitch writing service is provided in the available tool data.

If this goes wrong: the pitch sounds generic, makes an unsupported claim or reaches someone who does not want unsolicited contact, and you lose a lead or damage your reputation.

What to actually do

  1. Do it yourself

    The route this page recommends

A chat interface, no skill needed, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.

    How to actually do it

    1. Open the prospect's current website or public profile and copy the business description, one relevant observation and the correct contact name into a notes document.
    2. Gather your own service description, two or three accurate examples of relevant work, your portfolio link, availability and any price you are prepared to state.
    3. Check that the proposed contact method is appropriate and remove personal information that is not needed for the pitch.
    4. Paste the gathered information into the prompt and ask the chatbot for the subject lines, email and LinkedIn version.
    5. Compare every factual claim in the drafts with the prospect's current public page and your own portfolio, then delete any claim that cannot be supported.
    6. Read the final version aloud, replace wording that does not sound like you, confirm the link works and send only the version addressed to the correct recipient.

    Prompt

Write a concise cold pitch for a potential UK freelance client.

    Prospect:
    - Business name: [BUSINESS NAME]
    - Website or public profile: [URL]
    - What they appear to do: [BRIEF DESCRIPTION]
    - Relevant public observation or possible problem: [OBSERVATION]

    My offer:
    - Service: [SERVICE]
    - Relevant experience or proof: [ACCURATE EXPERIENCE, RESULTS OR EXAMPLES]
    - Portfolio link: [PORTFOLIO URL]
    - Availability: [AVAILABILITY]
    - Price or pricing approach: [PRICE OR LEAVE OUT]

    Write:
    1. Three subject lines.
    2. One email of no more than 120 words.
    3. One version for a LinkedIn message of no more than 70 words.

Use plain British English and a specific, respectful tone. Lead with the prospect's situation rather than my biography. Suggest one useful next step, such as a short call or permission to send ideas. Use only the facts supplied above and do not invent achievements, research, results, needs or familiarity with the prospect. Do not use hype, pressure, false urgency or generic praise. Do not claim that the prospect has a problem unless the observation supports it. Flag any sentence that needs checking before sending.

Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.

  2. Use a tool built for this

    Second choice
  3. Hand it to a person

    The distant third

A person who owns the outcome does this end to end, worth it when the failure is dear.

What it gets wrong

  • AI cannot know whether the prospect genuinely needs your service from a limited public profile.
  • AI cannot supply credible proof when your portfolio or work history is thin.
  • AI defaults to generic praise unless you provide a specific, current observation about the prospect.
  • AI cannot decide whether unsolicited contact is welcome or whether your chosen channel respects the recipient's preferences.
  • AI cannot take responsibility for the commercial or reputational result of sending the pitch.

Even on a YES, the friction has a name: taste, context depth and consent and privacy.

How we scored this

Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.

FAQ

Can AI write a cold pitch?
Yes. It can produce a usable first draft, several subject lines and shorter versions for channels such as LinkedIn. You still need to supply a real reason for contacting that prospect and check every factual claim.
How do I use AI to write a freelance pitch?
Give it the prospect's current public information, your relevant experience, your service and the action you want the prospect to take. Tell it to use only those facts, avoid generic praise and flag anything that needs checking.
Will clients know my pitch was written by AI?
They may notice if the wording is generic, over-polished or unlike your normal voice. Add a specific observation about the prospect, remove inflated claims and edit the final version so it reflects how you actually write.
Is it free to use AI for freelance cold pitches?
A free chat interface is enough to produce and refine a pitch, so you do not need a paid tool for the basic task. Lavender is a purpose-built AI email coach that scores and improves sales emails as you write, but its tool listing does not provide a pound price.
