What the alternative costsFinal Round AI is a purpose-built alternative offering AI mock interviews and live interview preparation.
If this goes wrong: your answer sounds generic or insincere, and you can replace it before the interview.

The route this page recommends
A chat interface, no skill needed, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.
How to actually do it
- Open the current job advert and copy its full text into a note, including the job title, employer name and main requirements.
- Open your CV and copy the sections or bullet points that relate directly to this role.
- Write three short notes in your own words explaining what attracts you to the work, this employer and the next step in your career.
- Paste the advert, relevant CV content and personal notes into the prompt, then ask the chatbot to produce the 90-second and 30-second answers.
- Compare every claim in both answers with the advert or your own experience, delete anything you could not defend, and replace generic reasons with your actual ones.
- Read the longer answer aloud and shorten or rewrite any sentence that does not sound like you, then practise answering the three follow-up questions without reading.
Prompt
Help me prepare a truthful spoken answer to the interview question: “Why do you want this job?” Job advert: [PASTE THE FULL JOB ADVERT] My CV or relevant experience: [PASTE YOUR CV OR LIST RELEVANT EXPERIENCE] My genuine reasons for applying: [WRITE YOUR REAL REASONS, INCLUDING WHAT INTERESTS YOU ABOUT THE ROLE, EMPLOYER OR WORK] Write: 1. A natural answer of about 90 seconds. 2. A shorter answer of about 30 seconds. 3. Three likely follow-up questions with brief answer points. Use only facts I provide or facts stated in the advert. Do not invent achievements, research, enthusiasm, values or knowledge of the employer. Connect my experience to the role without repeating my CV. Use plain British English and a calm, conversational tone. Avoid clichés such as “I am passionate”, “perfect fit” and “take my career to the next level” unless my notes make them genuinely true. Mark any missing information that would make the answer more personal. Make the answer sound like something I could say aloud, not a written cover letter.

What it gets wrong
- AI cannot know whether your stated reason is genuinely important to you unless you provide it.
- It defaults to generic phrases about culture, growth and passion when your notes are thin.
- It cannot judge how your answer sounds in your voice without you reading it aloud or using a separate speech-coaching tool.
- It cannot reliably infer what the interviewer values beyond the wording and context you provide.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: taste, context depth and judgement under ambiguity.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.
| Axis | Score (0–2) |
|---|---|
| Output | 2 |
| Inputs | 2 |
| Verification | 2 |
| Liability | 2 |
| Effort delta | 2 |

FAQ
- Can ChatGPT write an answer to “Why do you want this job?”
- Yes. Give it the job advert, relevant experience and your real reasons for applying, then ask for a spoken answer rather than a polished paragraph. Check every claim and remove phrases you would not naturally say.
- What should I say when an interviewer asks why I want the job?
- Link a specific part of the role to relevant experience, then explain why the work or employer genuinely interests you. Keep it grounded in facts you can defend and avoid making claims about the organisation that you have not checked.
- How long should my answer to “Why do you want this job?” be?
- Prepare an answer of about 90 seconds and a shorter version of about 30 seconds. The useful test is whether you answer the question directly without repeating your whole CV.
- How do I stop my AI interview answer sounding fake?
- Give the tool your actual reasons and ask for plain, conversational British English with no invented enthusiasm or clichés. Read the result aloud and replace any wording that does not sound like something you would say.
