YES

As of 13 August 2026, AI can check your FAQs for outdated information.

This still needs a person who signs their name to it.

What the alternative costsA specialist content audit is the human alternative, but no price is provided here.

If this goes wrong: an old answer remains visible to customers, causing avoidable contacts, complaints or loss of trust.

What to actually do

  1. Hand it to a person

    The route this page recommends

A person who owns the outcome does this end to end, worth it when the failure is dear.

  2. Use a tool built for this

    Second choice
  3. Do it yourself

    The distant third

A chat interface, chat-fluent skill, and roughly 1 hour until you can act on the result.

    How to actually do it

    1. Open the FAQ in your help-centre or document system and copy the complete questions and answers, including headings, links and any stated dates.
    2. Gather the documents that define the current position, such as product specifications, service policies, price lists, release notes and approved support wording.
    3. Record the review date and paste the FAQ and reference material into a chatbot using the prompt above.
    4. Ask the chatbot to produce the issue list, separating definite conflicts, unsupported claims and items needing human confirmation.
    5. Open each cited reference and compare it with the flagged FAQ wording, checking that the source is current and actually supports the proposed replacement.
    6. Send the confirmed changes to the colleague responsible for the service or help centre, then publish only the answers they approve and record the next review date.

    Prompt

Check the FAQ below for outdated, contradictory or unsupported information as at [REVIEW DATE]. Use only the current reference material supplied after it, and do not treat the FAQ itself as evidence. For each issue, give: the FAQ question, the exact claim that may be wrong, the relevant source, the source date if available, why the claim may be outdated, a corrected answer using only supported facts, and a confidence level. Separate definite conflicts from items that need human confirmation. Do not invent missing details, prices, dates, policies or product features. If no reference supports a claim, label it as unsupported rather than calling it false. Finish with a short list of FAQs that need no change and a publication checklist.

Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.

What it gets wrong

  • It cannot know that a source is complete, so it can miss a change that is absent from the material you provide.
  • It treats ambiguous wording as a comparison problem and cannot decide your organisation's intended policy without an accountable owner.
  • It can misread a source, follow an old linked page or suggest a correction that sounds plausible but is not approved wording.
  • It does not carry responsibility for what your business publishes, so a colleague still has to approve consequential changes.

Even on a YES, the friction has a name: real time truth, verification cost and judgement under ambiguity.

How we scored this

Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.

FAQ

Can AI find outdated information in my FAQs?
Yes. Give it the FAQ and the current policies, product documents or source links, and it can flag claims that conflict with them or have no supporting evidence. It cannot guarantee that the reference material contains every recent change.
Can ChatGPT check my FAQ is up to date?
It can perform a useful first check if you paste the FAQ and authoritative current material into the chat. Open the sources yourself and have the responsible colleague approve every change before publishing.
How do I check whether my website FAQs are out of date?
Copy the complete FAQ, gather the documents that define the current service, and ask AI to list conflicts, unsupported claims and proposed replacements. Compare every flag with its source, then publish only wording approved by the person responsible for the service.
Can AI update my FAQs automatically?
It can draft replacement answers, but automatic publication is unsafe when policies, prices or product behaviour may have changed. Keep a human approval step so that someone checks the source and accepts responsibility for the final wording.
