As of 13 August 2026, AI can handle cold call objections.
Most people should hand this to a purpose-built tool.
Can you do it?

What the alternative costsA colleague or sales coach can role-play objections; the available tool data gives no price for that alternative.
If this goes wrong: you sound scripted, make a claim your business cannot support or lose a prospect who might otherwise have continued the conversation.
What to actually do

The route this page recommends
Do it yourself
Second choiceA chat interface, chat-fluent skill, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.
How to actually do it
- Open your current product, pricing, terms and approved claims, then gather the target customer description and the outcome you want from the call.
- Paste those details and three to five real objection examples into the prompt, including any call transcripts with personal data removed.
- Ask the chatbot to produce the objection table, spoken responses and follow-up questions using only your supplied information.
- Run the role-play section aloud and replace any line that does not sound like your normal speaking voice.
- Compare every factual statement in the draft against your current price list, product documentation, approved claims and data protection process, then delete unsupported claims.
- Practise the final responses with a colleague who knows the offer, and use the checked version as a guide rather than reading it word for word on live calls.
Prompt
Act as a sales call coach for a UK business. Help me prepare for cold calls using only the information I provide and do not invent product features, customer results, prices, legal claims or policies. Business and offer: [describe what we sell, who buys it, price or pricing model, contract terms and the problem it solves] Target customer: [describe the role, organisation and situation] Call objective: [for example, book a discovery meeting, qualify fit or make a referral] Known proof points: [list approved evidence, case studies or customer outcomes] Objections I hear: [paste the objections, transcripts or notes] Claims I must not make: [list any restrictions] Create: 1. A table with each objection, the concern behind it, one concise response and one open question to ask next. 2. A version that sounds natural when spoken aloud in the UK, without pressure, jargon or invented evidence. 3. A short response for prospects who say they are not interested, already have a supplier, have no budget, are too busy or ask you to email instead. 4. A branching role-play in which you act as a sceptical prospect and pause after each response for me to answer. 5. A final list of every factual statement I must check against our current product information before using it. Do not tell me to argue with the prospect. Prefer acknowledging the concern, checking whether it is relevant, and ending politely when there is no fit or consent to continue.
Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.
Hand it to a person
The distant thirdA person who owns the outcome does this end to end, worth it when the failure is dear.
What it gets wrong
- AI cannot hear the prospect's tone, hesitation or changing level of interest unless you provide a reliable transcript or use a separate call tool.
- AI cannot know whether an objection is genuine, a polite refusal or a signal that the timing is wrong.
- It cannot supply current proof, pricing or product limits unless you provide and maintain those facts.
- A polished answer can still damage the relationship if it pressures someone who has not consented to continue the call.
- It cannot take responsibility for claims made on your employer's behalf or for the commercial result of the call.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: judgement under ambiguity, relationship and stakes of error.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.
| Axis | Score (0–2) |
|---|---|
| Output | 2 |
| Inputs | 2 |
| Verification | 1 |
| Liability | 1 |
| Effort delta | 2 |
| Total | 8 / 10 |
The methodology and its thresholds are published in full.
FAQ
- Can ChatGPT give me responses to cold call objections?
- Yes. Give it your offer, target customer, approved proof points and real objections, and it can draft concise responses, follow-up questions and role-play scenarios. Check every factual claim against your current sales material before using it.
- What should I say when a prospect says they are not interested?
- Ask one low-pressure question such as whether the issue is timing, relevance or an existing solution, then accept the answer and end politely if they do not want to continue. AI can help you practise versions of this response, but it cannot judge the prospect's tone as well as you can in the call.
- Can AI handle objections during a live cold call?
- It can help you prepare and may support a call through transcription or prompts, but it is not a reliable substitute for listening and deciding in real time. Use prepared responses as options, not as a script that overrides the prospect's answers or wishes.
- How do I use AI to practise cold call objections?
- Paste your offer, target customer, call objective and real objections into a chatbot, then ask it to act as a sceptical prospect and pause after each objection. Practise aloud with a colleague afterwards and correct any response that contains an unsupported claim or sounds unlike you.
