As of 13 August 2026, AI can create a customer feedback report.
This still needs a person who signs their name to it.
Can you do it?

What the alternative costsThe supplied tool data does not give a price for a human or software alternative.
If this goes wrong: you act on a misleading theme or incorrect calculation and spend money fixing a problem that the feedback did not actually show.

A person who owns the outcome does this end to end, worth it when the failure is dear.

How to actually do it
- Open the survey, review, complaint or support export and remove names, email addresses, telephone numbers, order references and any other unnecessary personal data.
- Gather the reporting period, response channel, question wording, rating scale, relevant customer segments, product names and the business decision the report will support.
- Paste the business context and anonymised feedback into the prompt, keeping the original rating values and response text intact.
- Ask the chatbot to produce the report and show all NPS or other numerical calculations rather than presenting unexplained totals.
- Compare every reported count, percentage, rating and quotation against the source export, and correct any missing, duplicated or misclassified responses.
- Check that each theme is supported by enough relevant responses for your context, and mark conclusions based on sparse or biased feedback as hypotheses.
- Remove any unnecessary personal information from the draft, send safety, discrimination, privacy, fraud or legal concerns to a responsible person, and share the finished report with named owners for the agreed actions.
Prompt
Create a customer feedback report for my UK business using only the data and context I provide below. Business context: [describe the business, customers, products or services, reporting period and the decision this report will support] Feedback data: [paste anonymised survey responses, review text, complaints, support notes or an export] If the data includes ratings from 0 to 10, calculate the response count and NPS where the necessary ratings are present. Show the calculation, state the denominator and identify missing or unusable ratings. Do not invent responses, ratings, customer details, dates, causes or trends. Produce the report with these sections: 1. Executive summary 2. Data scope and limitations 3. Overall satisfaction and NPS findings, if the data supports them 4. Main positive themes, with the number of source responses where you can verify it 5. Main problems or negative themes, with supporting quotations or response references 6. Differences between customer groups, products or channels only where the data supports a comparison 7. Urgent issues that need a human to investigate, including any safety, discrimination, privacy, fraud or legal concern 8. Practical actions, separating evidence-based actions from hypotheses to test 9. A short table of each finding, its evidence, confidence and suggested owner Keep customer quotations anonymous. Preserve the original meaning and flag unclear, contradictory or duplicated responses. Label every interpretation as an interpretation rather than a fact. End with a list of checks I must complete before sharing the report. Use clear British English and a neutral tone.
Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.
What it gets wrong
- AI cannot know whether the people who responded represent the customers who did not respond.
- It groups similar wording into themes, but it cannot decide reliably whether a complaint is isolated, systemic or caused by an issue outside the feedback.
- It cannot investigate a serious complaint, contact a customer sensitively or resolve a dispute on your behalf.
- It can make a plausible calculation or quotation error, so every figure and quotation still needs comparison with the source data.
- It cannot choose the right business priority without knowing your margins, capacity, commitments and customer relationships.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: judgement under ambiguity, verification cost and stakes of error.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.
| Axis | Score (0–2) |
|---|---|
| Output | 2 |
| Inputs | 2 |
| Verification | 1 |
| Liability | 1 |
| Effort delta | 2 |
| Total | 8 / 10 |
The methodology and its thresholds are published in full.
FAQ
- Can AI analyse customer feedback?
- Yes. It can group comments, calculate supported scores, identify repeated themes and draft a report from anonymised data. You still need to check the evidence and decide whether the themes are representative.
- Can AI calculate NPS from survey responses?
- Yes, if you provide the original ratings and the rating scale. Ask it to show the response count, denominator and calculation, then compare the result with your source export before using it.
- Can AI tell me what customers are unhappy about?
- It can identify recurring complaints in the feedback you provide. It cannot know whether silent customers feel the same way or establish the cause without further investigation.
- Is it safe to put customer feedback into ChatGPT?
- Remove names, contact details, order references and other personal data that the report does not need before uploading it. Follow your business data policies and do not use an AI summary as a substitute for investigating a serious complaint.
