How to actually do it
- Open the UK job advert and copy the responsibilities, essential criteria and person specification into a document.
- List three to six real examples from your work, study, volunteering or other relevant experience, including what you personally did and what happened afterwards.
- Add any figures, dates, systems, customers or colleagues you can truthfully mention, and mark anything you cannot disclose.
- Paste the job advert, your examples and the prompt into a chatbot, then ask it to draft one STAR answer for each likely competency question.
- Read each drafted Situation, Task, Action and Result section aloud and replace generic wording with the exact actions you took.
- Compare every claim and figure against your notes or records, remove anything you cannot defend, and answer the chatbot's follow-up questions only with facts you remember.
- Practise each final answer aloud without reading it word for word, then shorten any answer that does not fit comfortably into about 90 seconds.

What it gets wrong
- AI cannot supply a genuine example from your career when your notes contain no relevant experience.
- It turns vague notes into plausible-sounding claims, so invented detail can enter an answer unless you check every sentence.
- It cannot know which parts of your story an interviewer will find credible, distinctive or appropriate for that particular panel.
- It cannot replace practising aloud, noticing your own delivery and adapting an answer to a follow-up question in real time.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: judgement under ambiguity, stakes of error and taste.
