As of 13 August 2026, AI can improve an interview answer you have written.
Most people should do this themselves; the prompt is on this page.

What the alternative costsA purpose-built tool such as Final Round AI is an alternative for mock interviews and live interview preparation.
If this goes wrong: the answer sounds polished but unlike you, so you can rewrite it from your original experience before the interview.

The route this page recommends
A chat interface, chat-fluent skill, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.
How to actually do it
- Open the job advert and copy the job title, the interview question if known, and the requirements most relevant to the answer.
- Write down the real situation, your actions, the result and any figures or feedback you can genuinely defend.
- Paste the prompt into ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini and replace every bracketed section with your job details, draft and evidence.
- Ask the chatbot to produce the revised answer, its changes and the likely follow-up questions as requested in the prompt.
- Compare the revised answer line by line with your own experience and delete any claim, result or responsibility that you cannot explain in the interview.
- Read the conversational version aloud and replace wording you would not normally use until it sounds like your own speech.
- Practise answering the two follow-up questions without reading the script, then shorten the answer if you lose the main point.
Prompt
Improve the interview answer below for a UK job interview. Use only facts I provide and invent nothing. Keep the answer in my voice, make it easy to say aloud, and keep the strongest specific evidence. Structure it using Situation, Task, Action and Result where that fits, but do not force that structure. Make the answer concise enough for a spoken response without removing useful detail. Point out any unsupported claim, vague phrase or missing result instead of filling it in. Give me: 1) a revised answer, 2) a short list of what you changed, and 3) two follow-up questions an interviewer might ask. Then give me a version that sounds more conversational. Job title: [JOB TITLE]. Interview question: [QUESTION]. Job description or relevant requirements: [JOB DESCRIPTION]. My draft answer: [DRAFT ANSWER]. Facts from my experience that may be used: [FACTS AND RESULTS]. Tone I want: [TONE].
Open it prefilled in ChatGPT or Claude, or copy it into Gemini, which takes no prefill link.

What it gets wrong
- AI cannot know which achievement best represents you unless you supply the relevant context.
- It cannot tell whether the revised wording sounds genuinely like you when spoken under interview pressure.
- It cannot verify an unrecorded result, responsibility or workplace detail from your draft.
- It cannot predict the exact follow-up question or the interviewer’s reaction.
- It tends to make answers smoother and more generic unless you keep specific evidence and personal wording.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: taste, judgement under ambiguity and context depth.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.
| Axis | Score (0–2) |
|---|---|
| Output | 2 |
| Inputs | 2 |
| Verification | 2 |

| Effort delta | 2 |

FAQ
- Can ChatGPT improve my interview answer?
- Yes. It can improve structure, clarity and spoken phrasing when you provide the question, job requirements and your real evidence. Check every claim and keep wording you can say naturally.
- Will AI make my interview answer sound scripted?
- It can, especially if you accept a polished draft without reading it aloud. Ask for a conversational version, then replace phrases you would not normally use and practise without the script.
- Should I use the STAR method for every interview answer?
- No. Situation, Task, Action and Result is useful for competency questions, but forcing it onto every answer can make you sound mechanical. Use the structure when it helps you give clear evidence, and answer direct questions directly.
- Can AI make up an example for my interview?
- It can generate a plausible example, but you should not use one that did not happen. Ask it to identify missing evidence and help you explain a real experience instead.
