As of 13 August 2026, AI can practise a video interview.
Most people should do this themselves; the prompt is on this page.

What the alternative costsA purpose-built alternative is Final Round AI, which offers AI mock interviews and live interview preparation.
If this goes wrong: you practise against generic questions or accept weak feedback, but you can correct the approach before the interview by comparing it with the job description and replaying your answers.
What to actually do
Do it yourself
The route this page recommends
A chat interface, no skill needed, and roughly 15 minutes until you can act on the result.
How to actually do it
- Open the job advert and copy the full description, including the essential criteria, responsibilities and any stated interview format.
- Open your current CV and make a short list of two or three genuine examples from work, study, volunteering or other experience that match the criteria.
- Paste the job description and your experience into the prompt, replacing the bracketed sections with your own details and removing anything you do not want to share.
- Ask the chatbot to start the mock interview, then answer each question aloud while recording yourself on your phone or computer as if you were on the real video call.
- Paste or dictate each answer into the chat after saying it, and compare the feedback with the relevant requirement in the job advert rather than accepting general comments about confidence or body language.
- Replay the recording and write a revised version of any answer that lacked a clear situation, action and result, using only examples that are true.
- Run the three weakest answers again, then check that your camera, microphone, internet connection, background and notes are ready for the actual interview.
Prompt
Act as a demanding but fair UK interview coach. I am preparing for a video interview for [JOB TITLE] at [EMPLOYER]. The interview format is [FORMAT, IF KNOWN]. Here is the job description: [PASTE JOB DESCRIPTION] Here is my CV or relevant experience: [PASTE CV OR EXPERIENCE] Run a realistic mock interview one question at a time. Start with a brief introduction question, then ask questions covering the main skills, behaviours and responsibilities in the job description. Include likely UK competency questions and ask follow-up questions when my answer is vague. Do not invent facts about me, the employer or the role. After each answer, give feedback under these headings: what answered the question, what was missing, evidence or detail to add, structure and clarity, and one specific improvement for the next attempt. Do not judge my accent, appearance or background. Distinguish clearly between an objective issue, such as not answering the question, and a subjective preference, such as wording or tone. At the end, give me five priority changes and three questions I should practise again.

What it gets wrong
- AI cannot know which parts of your experience are most persuasive to this particular interviewer unless you provide enough context.
- It gives broad feedback on eye contact, pace and body language, but it cannot reliably infer how a specific panel will judge your manner.
- It cannot reproduce the pressure, interruptions or rapport of a real interviewer consistently.
- It may reward polished STAR-shaped answers that sound rehearsed rather than natural.
- It cannot decide which truthful example you should use when several could answer the question.
Even on a YES, the friction has a name: judgement under ambiguity, context depth and taste.
How we scored this
Five axes, each scored nought to two by hand: ten means AI carries the task cleanly, and the thresholds that turn a total into YES, PARTLY or NO are published in the methodology. Each axis name links to its definition.
| Axis | Score (0–2) |
|---|---|
| Output | 2 |
| Inputs | 2 |
| Verification | 2 |
| Liability | 2 |
| Effort delta | 2 |
| Total | 10 / 10 |
The methodology and its thresholds are published in full.
FAQ
- Can AI do a mock video interview?
- Yes. It can ask role-specific questions, continue with follow-ups and give first-pass feedback on your answers, structure and delivery. Record yourself as well, because replaying your own answer lets you check whether the feedback is accurate.
- How can I use ChatGPT to practise an interview?
- Give it the job description, your CV or experience and the interview format, then ask for one question at a time with follow-ups. Answer aloud before sending your answer for feedback, and tell it not to invent achievements or judge your accent and appearance.
- Can AI give feedback on my interview answers?
- Yes, especially on whether an answer addresses the question, includes relevant evidence and has a clear structure. Treat comments about confidence, personality and what an interviewer will think as suggestions, not as facts.
- Is AI interview practice worth it?
- Yes, if you use it to repeat realistic questions and improve specific answers against the job requirements. It is not a substitute for a person who can recreate the employer's interview style or give informed feedback on your particular experience.
